My lovely morning trek to Zion started at 4:30am in Sin City. I took the long, long way (see the map below) in order to stop by the Kanab field office to try my luck at getting a walk-in permit to hike "The Wave" at North Coyote Buttes the following day. The rangers only issue 10 walk-in permits per day and I was lucky enough to get the 8th one for that particular day. This was pure luck as I managed to show up exactly one hour late due to the old Nevada/Arizona/Utah time zone confusion. I drove into Zion National Park via the east gate and was shocked by how quickly I began to feel small.
